== History ==
After summoning [[Alcor the Dreambender]], Jan made a deal with the demon in turn for his experimentation with raising the dead. This resulted in a 24 year period of demonic relations, ultimately ending in Jan's death. Throughout this time, Jan and Alcor worked together to resurrect dead bodies, bully corrupt politicians, and commit other minor acts of supernatural antics. In 3120, Jan gave up his soul and was gruesomely murdered by Alcor, in what is considered an oddity in the field of Alcorian study.<ref>{{AO3Citation|gawain_in_green|Judgment Day|2019|https://archiveofourown.org/works/21928135}}</ref>

== Personality ==
Jan Faust is inspired by Doctor Faustus, the titular character of the 1592 play by Christopher Marlowe. Jan briefly dedicated himself to the medicine field before hurtling headfirst into demonology, and devotes himself to teaching as well as practicing. He wants to change the world, consumed by his obsessions regarding [[necromancy]] and the occult. Jan is somewhat of a stubborn man, and reserved, keeping a relatively low academic and personal profile for most of his life. He once considered marriage, but didn't exactly have a ready partner, nor was he particularly interested in the economic hassle of it all.

== Physical Description ==
With platinum blonde hair and stylish outfits, Gemma does not fit the typical description of a demonologist. She has a blue tube top and is often described as wearing heels.

After being arrested in the woods, she had to wear an ankle monitor.

== Personality ==
Gemma is a very sunny and enthusiastic person, able to quickly take over any group she is a part of. She cares deeply about her friends and will go to great lengths to protect them.

She is much smarter than many people give her credit for, and she does have a scheming side. She was able to trick Lucy Ann by posing as her friend.

== History ==
Gemma is [[Mallory Quicksilver|Mallory Quicksilver's]] best friend since high school, and also considers herself [[Dipper Pines|Dipper Quicksilver's]] friend. She goes to the same local college as Dipper, while Mallory goes to a college in [[New Los Angeles]]. Mallory soon drops out and flies back from NLA to take care of her father, but lies to conceal this from Gemma.

Studying demonology, Gemma and the other Demonology 101 students quickly become frustrated by the restrictions put in place by the school after a large and unexplained spike in demonic energy at the start of the year. Not knowing this is due to Alcor disguising himself as Dipper Quicksilver, they suspect a [[demon]] summoner is on campus and form a close-knit group to catch them.

One of the members, [[Yosieto Xiaofan]], is framed by Mallory to throw Dipper off her trail. Mallory asks Gemma for Xiaofan's address the night of the framing, which Gemma believes Mallory was manipulated into doing as she was supposedly in NLA at the time. Xiaofan's voicemail accusations lead Gemma to suspect that [[Lucy Ann]] is the demon summoner they have been looking for.

Knowing that Lucy Ann will flee the country if she is directly confronted, Gemma instead pretends to work with Lucy Ann and Dipper. Pretending that her vampire-hunting uncle needs to be scared out of town, she and the other demonology students manage to capture her. However, the plan goes wrong when the [[The Woodsman|Woodsman]] appears, injures Dipper, and allows Lucy Ann to escape.

Gemma and the other demonology students are harshly punished for appearing to summon a demon; they are expelled, while Gemma is put on house arrest. She continues to work with her group on locating Lucy Ann, believing that capturing her will lead to their punishments being reversed.

She discovers a lead on Lucy Ann's location, but when she goes to tell Dipper, she realises that Mallory had dropped out months ago and was in town the night Xiaofan was framed.

Mallory, realising Gemma is close to uncovering the extent of her crimes, murders her.

[[Demon|Demons]] are a type of powerful being that exist within the [[Mindscape]]. They are able to be summoned with certain circles/symbols and incantations, and can make deals with those who summon them. They have a wide range of powers and abilities and can do nearly anything, given the right sacrifice and contract. The more powerful the summoned demon, the more powerful magic the contract will have.

== Creation/Birth ==
Demons are born when two demons procreate, which is an exceedingly rare occurance. Demons are all inherently competitive, in a constant struggle for power. Once a demon “egg” is created, the parents leave. Demon parents who stick around after this point is unheard of; it’s a miracle enough they tolerated each other through courtship and birth (which happens quickly, and it’s more like fish fertilizing eggs then skedaddling out of there).

For hundreds of years, the egg exists in the demonic world, slowly developing and seeping knowledge from other worlds. The rate of absorption is proportionate to the combined talent of its parents. By the time the demon emerges from its embryonic cage, it’s already what most humans would equate to an adult. It’s fully capable of fending for itself - within moments the demon realizes its name, its symbol, it’s summoning circle. From that moment on, the demon is drawn to the human world where it can best feed, gain power, and enjoy the disaster of chaos. At this point, the demon already knows every language applicable, and inherently knows how to make good deals… but they do hone those skills through use. A newly born demon is far more likely to make a “bad” deal than one that’s been around the block a time or two.

In addition, newborn demons don’t always have a set specialty. It’s over the next hundred years or so that the demon finds its particular talent, and grows into a faction like “dream demon”, “fear devourer”, “sea demon”, etc.

Demons also don’t have a concept of family. If the parents come across the child later on, they’d treat it like any other demon - a rival.

== Ranking ==
Demons are categorized into three (a fourth being theoretical) ranks - Legion, Spirit, Elite, (and Exalted).

When getting more detailed however, there is a ranking scale that go from F to A to S and SS, least powerful to most powerful. F-class demons tend to be little more than smoke or tiny creatures, barely able to pop into the physical realm only when summoned or during a magical storm with natural portals opening. A-class demons are capable of destruction on a national level. S-Class demons could potentially endanger the entire world. SS-Class demons are more of a theoretical class that goes hand in hand with Exalted, and was actually proposed solely to accommodate [[Dipper Pines]], who can pop into the physical realm at will, and harbors a possibly unlimited potential that could eventually give him the power to alter reality itself.<ref>{{TAUBlogCitation|cryptidmaeblue asked: What do all the letters stand for in the categorizaton, like what's G or SS???|https://transcendence-au.tumblr.com/post/112940733628/what-do-all-the-letters-stand-for-in-the}}</ref>

It’s exceedingly rare for a demon to change ranks from birth. It can however happen, if a lower demon gathers immense power - it will transform and become a new entity. For example, a Legion who devours 100 souls could potentially become a Spirit. An Elites could potentially be weakened enough with attacks from multiple forces over long periods of time to diminish into a Spirit.

== Summoning ==
Demons, by default, exist in a non-physical state in which they cannot directly affect the material world or communicate with the majority of beings in that world. Humans or other physical beings wishing to make contact with a demon must summon the demon to the physical plane.

To summon a demon, a person must typically draw a specific circle (usually one with symbols specific to the demon and a binding circle element to protect the summoner), recite an incantation with the demon's name or title, and make a sacrifice or offering (typically blood or a dead animal, but everything from candy to human sacrifice can be used successfully with the right demon). Summoners typically draw circles in chalk or blood on a solid-surface floor and surround the circle with lit candles. Candle scent and chalk color may be changed according to the demon being summoned, as different demons have different preferences and may be more or less likely to show up based on these details.

In most cases, the intent and will of the summoner are more important than the physical details of the summoning. A person with a strong desire to summon a demon will likely be able to even with a pencil-and-paper circle, botched incantation, and small offering, as long as the demon is not exceptionally powerful or busy.

Of course such a highly specialised is good at short term Temporal manipulation and apt on a general level with most forms of manipulation.

When they are in the middle of a looping cycle they have an incredibly powerful source of power fuelled by the deaths, the emotion, the trapped souls and the stubbornness of the main victim and the subsequent emotions from the victim slowly going mad.

Of course this also means that these locations are their weak points. If someone can enter the temporal loop. They can cause the entire thing to unbalance by introducing unknowns into the entire problem crafted by the looper demon

The other solution is that the main Victim is able to actually beat the demon, an almost impossible proposition since the Demon holds all the cards.

Looper demons react badly if they see with someone who isn't supposed to be in their loop.

Locksmith Demons specialize in deals pertaining to locks/doorways and don't really have the power to affect much else. They aren't really "deal" motivated demons. Rather, their unique attribute is their pocket dimension.

They're born with their pocket dimension already attached to their being. Think of it like an extension of themselves, somewhere only they can access. It grows and changes with them. It's not the mindscape, because other creatures can't just wander into it. It's unlocked through a metaphysical "key" that the locksmith can use to enter and exit. The only way anything else gets in is if the locksmith lets it.

This makes them particularly dangerous because of their ability to escape from any situation on a whim. In the mindscape, locksmiths can flit in and out of their pocket dimension at will. This is powerful enough already, but the real danger comes if they get to the physical plane.

When summoned, if the binding/containment circles around the summoning circle have any flaws, a locksmith can use their pocket dimension to hop right out of the summoning circle and onto the physical plane, where they can then wreak havoc. They're as hard to catch as bodysnatchers, but ten times as dangerous.

Locksmiths are hatched from an egg like other demons, but they're the “marsupials” of the demon population. They hatch underdeveloped compared to the other types of demons and crawl into their pocket dimension where they spend the next few centuries gathering all the rest of the knowledge they need to be a demon.

There's no specific requirements for their appearance, but manyof them like to have some kind of lock or key motif on their body.

Being able to get in and out of situations makes them powerful allies. Demons don't like to ally with each other, but there have been known instances of them setting that aside for locksmiths (see: Keyhole and [[Bill Cipher]]). With locksmiths' inability to make powerful deals, latching onto a stronger demon is a symbiotic sort of relationship.

However, Locksmiths were already a dying sub-type of demon well before the Transcendence, partially because of this type of allyship. If the more powerful demon got fed up with their allied locksmith, things could go south fast. If the locksmith can't escape in time, they're easily defeated in combat.

The other reason they're dying is how they're born. They hatch underdeveloped. If found before they can get into their pocket dimension, they're dead. And the power boost to a demon if they consume a locksmith, even an infant, is hard to pass up.

The only well known Locksmith post-Transcendence is [[Keyhole]]. [[Keyhole]] was a strong ally of [[Bill Cipher]] and participated in Weirdmageddon. He was one of the longest-lived locksmiths in existence. He was killed by Alcor approximately 30 years after the death of [[Bill Cipher|Bill Cipher.]]

[[Demon|Demons]] are a type of powerful being that exist within the [[Mindscape]]. They are able to be summoned with certain circles/symbols and incantations, and can make deals with those who summon them. They have a wide range of powers and abilities and can do nearly anything, given the right sacrifice and contract. The more powerful the summoned demon, the more powerful magic the contract will have.

== Creation/Birth ==
Demons are born when two demons procreate, which is an exceedingly rare occurance. Demons are all inherently competitive, in a constant struggle for power. For hundreds of years, the egg exists in the demonic world, slowly developing and seeping knowledge from other worlds. The rate of absorption is proportionate to the combined talent of its parents. It’s fully capable of fending for itself - within moments the demon realizes its name, its symbol, it’s summoning circle. From that moment on, the demon is drawn to the human world where it can best feed, gain power, and enjoy the disaster of chaos. At this point, the demon already knows every language applicable, and inherently knows how to make good deals… but they do hone those skills through use. A newly born demon is far more likely to make a “bad” deal than one that’s been around the block a time or two.

In addition, newborn demons don’t always have a set specialty. It’s over the next hundred years or so that the demon finds its particular talent, and grows into a faction like “dream demon”, “fear devourer”, “sea demon”, etc.

F-class demons tend to be little more than smoke or tiny creatures, barely able to pop into the physical realm only when summoned or during a magical storm with natural portals opening. A-class demons are capable of destruction on a national level. S-Class demons could potentially endanger the entire world. Of course such a highly specialised is good at short term Temporal manipulation and apt on a general level with most forms of manipulation.

When they are in the middle of a looping cycle they have an incredibly powerful source of power fuelled by the deaths, the emotion, the trapped souls and the stubbornness of the main victim and the subsequent emotions from the victim slowly going mad.

Of course this also means that these locations are their weak points. If someone can enter the temporal loop. They can cause the entire thing to unbalance by introducing unknowns into the entire problem crafted by the looper demon

The other solution is that the main Victim is able to actually beat the demon, an almost impossible proposition since the Demon holds all the cards.

Looper demons react badly if they see with someone who isn't supposed to be in their loop.

It's not the mindscape, because other creatures can't just wander into it. It's unlocked through a metaphysical "key" that the locksmith can use to enter and exit. [[Demon|Demons]] are a type of powerful being that exist within the [[Mindscape]]. They are able to be summoned with certain circles/symbols and incantations, and can make deals with those who summon them. They have a wide range of powers and abilities and can do nearly anything, given the right sacrifice and contract. The more powerful the summoned demon, the more powerful magic the contract will have.

== Creation/Birth ==
Demons are born when two demons procreate, which is an exceedingly rare occurance. Demons are all inherently competitive, in a constant struggle for power. Once a demon “egg” is created, the parents leave. Demon parents who stick around after this point is unheard of; it’s a miracle enough they tolerated each other through courtship and birth (which happens quickly, and it’s more like fish fertilizing eggs then skedaddling out of there).

For hundreds of years, the egg exists in the demonic world, slowly developing and seeping knowledge from other worlds. The rate of absorption is proportionate to the combined talent of its parents. By the time the demon emerges from its embryonic cage, it’s already what most humans would equate to an adult. It’s fully capable of fending for itself - within moments the demon realizes its name, its symbol, it’s summoning circle. From that moment on, the demon is drawn to the human world where it can best feed, gain power, and enjoy the disaster of chaos. At this point, the demon already knows every language applicable, and inherently knows how to make good deals… but they do hone those skills through use. A newly born demon is far more likely to make a “bad” deal than one that’s been around the block a time or two.

In addition, newborn demons don’t always have a set specialty. It’s over the next hundred years or so that the demon finds its particular talent, and grows into a faction like “dream demon”, “fear devourer”, “sea demon”, etc.

Demons also don’t have a concept of family. If the parents come across the child later on, they’d treat it like any other demon - a rival.

== Ranking ==
Demons are categorized into three (a fourth being theoretical) ranks - Legion, Spirit, Elite, (and Exalted).

When getting more detailed however, there is a ranking scale that go from F to A to S and SS, least powerful to most powerful. F-class demons tend to be little more than smoke or tiny creatures, barely able to pop into the physical realm only when summoned or during a magical storm with natural portals opening. A-class demons are capable of destruction on a national level. S-Class demons could potentially endanger the entire world. SS-Class demons are more of a theoretical class that goes hand in hand with Exalted, and was actually proposed solely to accommodate [[Dipper Pines]], who can pop into the physical realm at will, and harbors a possibly unlimited potential that could eventually give him the power to alter reality itself.<ref>{{TAUBlogCitation|cryptidmaeblue asked: What do all the letters stand for in the categorizaton, like what's G or SS???|https://transcendence-au.tumblr.com/post/112940733628/what-do-all-the-letters-stand-for-in-the}}</ref>

It’s exceedingly rare for a demon to change ranks from birth. It can however happen, if a lower demon gathers immense power - it will transform and become a new entity. For example, a Legion who devours 100 souls could potentially become a Spirit. An Elites could potentially be weakened enough with attacks from multiple forces over long periods of time to diminish into a Spirit.

== Summoning ==
Demons, by default, exist in a non-physical state in which they cannot directly affect the material world or communicate with the majority of beings in that world. Humans or other physical beings wishing to make contact with a demon must summon the demon to the physical plane.

To summon a demon, a person must typically draw a specific circle (usually one with symbols specific to the demon and a binding circle element to protect the summoner), recite an incantation with the demon's name or title, and make a sacrifice or offering (typically blood or a dead animal, but everything from candy to human sacrifice can be used successfully with the right demon). Summoners typically draw circles in chalk or blood on a solid-surface floor and surround the circle with lit candles. Candle scent and chalk color may be changed according to the demon being summoned, as different demons have different preferences and may be more or less likely to show up based on these details.

In most cases, the intent and will of the summoner are more important than the physical details of the summoning. A person with a strong desire to summon a demon will likely be able to even with a pencil-and-paper circle, botched incantation, and small offering, as long as the demon is not exceptionally powerful or busy.

“You have met with a terrible fate have you? But dear child I offer you a way out. To undo all that’s happened. But first I want to play a game. Of course such a highly specialised is good at short term Temporal manipulation and apt on a general level with most forms of manipulation.

When they are in the middle of a looping cycle they have an incredibly powerful source of power fuelled by the deaths, the emotion, the trapped souls and the stubbornness of the main victim and the subsequent emotions from the victim slowly going mad.

Of course this also means that these locations are their weak points. If someone can enter the temporal loop. They can cause the entire thing to unbalance by introducing unknowns into the entire problem crafted by the looper demon

The other solution is that the main Victim is able to actually beat the demon, an almost impossible proposition since the Demon holds all the cards.

Looper demons react badly if they see with someone who isn't supposed to be in their loop.

Locksmith Demons specialize in deals pertaining to locks/doorways and don't really have the power to affect much else. They aren't really "deal" motivated demons. Rather, their unique attribute is their pocket dimension.

They're born with their pocket dimension already attached to their being. Think of it like an extension of themselves, somewhere only they can access. It grows and changes with them. It's not the mindscape, because other creatures can't just wander into it. It's unlocked through a metaphysical "key" that the locksmith can use to enter and exit. The only way anything else gets in is if the locksmith lets it.

This makes them particularly dangerous because of their ability to escape from any situation on a whim. In the mindscape, locksmiths can flit in and out of their pocket dimension at will. This is powerful enough already, but the real danger comes if they get to the physical plane.

When summoned, if the binding/containment circles around the summoning circle have any flaws, a locksmith can use their pocket dimension to hop right out of the summoning circle and onto the physical plane, where they can then wreak havoc. They're as hard to catch as bodysnatchers, but ten times as dangerous.

Locksmiths are hatched from an egg like other demons, but they're the “marsupials” of the demon population. They hatch underdeveloped compared to the other types of demons and crawl into their pocket dimension where they spend the next few centuries gathering all the rest of the knowledge they need to be a demon.

There's no specific requirements for their appearance, but manyof them like to have some kind of lock or key motif on their body.

Being able to get in and out of situations makes them powerful allies. Demons don't like to ally with each other, but there have been known instances of them setting that aside for locksmiths (see: Keyhole and [[Bill Cipher]]). With locksmiths' inability to make powerful deals, latching onto a stronger demon is a symbiotic sort of relationship.

However, Locksmiths were already a dying sub-type of demon well before the Transcendence, partially because of this type of allyship. If the more powerful demon got fed up with their allied locksmith, things could go south fast. If the locksmith can't escape in time, they're easily defeated in combat.

The other reason they're dying is how they're born. They hatch underdeveloped. If found before they can get into their pocket dimension, they're dead. And the power boost to a demon if they consume a locksmith, even an infant, is hard to pass up.

The only well known Locksmith post-Transcendence is Keyhole. Keyhole was a strong ally of [[Bill Cipher]] and participated in Weirdmageddon. He was one of the longest-lived locksmiths in existence. He was killed by Alcor approximately 30 years after the death of [[Bill Cipher|Bill Cipher.]]

[[Dipper Pines|Alcor]] is known to hunt down locksmiths right after hatching to prevent any from becoming full-grown.

Rleiph is very energetic, if a little clumsy. She’s very expressive, a tad stubborn, and likes to speak her mind (which often gets her into trouble). She’s very social, and took boarding school pretty hard due to being separated from her friends.

Rleiph loves to hike, and her favorite pastime as a child was to race.

Rleiph lived in the Republic of Ombre on the planet of Sierra during the early 8th millennium. She grew up very close with her parents, and was incredibly anxious to go to boarding school at age 10. When she was 17 she was hospitalized from a brutal hate crime by pro-nats, and continued school virtually afterwards. She met her future partner Nail (pronounced “Na-yheel”) before graduating, moving in together, marriage, and eventually having kids of their own.

He joined the Magic Research club, making new friends and coming out of his shell, even quieting those thoughts. He gained an interest in demonology, but was quickly shut down by his family.

When he was seventeen he joined the book club, meeting Ghali. They hit it off right away, and moved in together after graduation, when Drephl started to work finding and translating legally dubious scriptures. They married for financial reasons, and eventually chose to have a child together. Their first choice was to adopt, but their government didn’t allow cross-species couples to do so. Instead they started saving money for “Looming”, a process designed for same-sex couples, where a couple could send over DNA, and have a child grown in an artificial womb.

When their daughter Rleiph was born, he got a job working at the parks, to spend more time with her. When Rleiph had a family of her own, he and Ghali moved into her neighborhood to help out. He died at 87.

In adulthood he met Marda Dajan, and eventually married, taking his last name. He died in his middle age with Marda, when their subway tunnel collapsed on them.
