			Toby was born in Yakima, Washington, to Carys, the matriarch of their silicate. Growing up, his mother noticed that he often acted more like a human than a troll, something that made others of his kind uncomfortable.

			Some time after the Transcendence, Toby and his silicate were captured by a mafia based in Portland, Oregon, and were being sold at a black-market auction as slaves. [[Hank Pines]], who had infiltrated the event, outbid everyone at the auction and used the opportunity to set Toby free. Toby then presumably helped his family and the Dinner Crew in rescuing the other captives.
			After this, Toby was asked by Hank if he would like to join the Crew, an offer which he accepted with assurances from [[Lucy Ann]] that he would welcome.
			Toby became known to the public as "The Muscle" of Hank's mafia, and was considered one of the more responsible members, being left in charge when Hank, [[Vivienne Pines\|Viv]], and Lucy Ann are unavailable.
