Gnomes hiding beneath some mushrooms (source)

Gnomes are a species of tiny bearded men.[1] Although many dwell in the forest, they can also be found in and around cities, where they are often treated as pests.[2]

Culture

Gnomes are typically led by a queen, and have been known to try to kidnap women or girls (or people they mistake for women and girls) to fulfill this role.[1][3]

During times of mourning, gnomes will eat bereavement jam.[4] This is a very involved and messy process that involves smearing the jam on various body parts and undertaking various tasks, including walking on sharp rocks and setting their beards on fire. Bereavement jam is not made in any special way -- and, in fact, gnomes refer to all jam as 'bereavement jam.'[5]

Abilities

Although individually, gnomes are quite small, they are able to stack themselves on top of each other to mimic the shape and strength of a much larger creature.[1]

Trivia

  • A group of gnomes is called a 'troop.'[2]
  • At some point, gnomes move past kidnapping their queens, to the point where, by the So You Want To Be a Demonologist Arc, they only do so for historical reenactments.[6]
  • Gnomes migrate underground for winter.[7]
