The Woodsman is a powerful beast formed from Henry's soul. It was created when Henry was 42, after Dipper infused him with a dose of demonic energy to give him the ability to protect Willow from a group of cultists who kidnapped her.[1] Originally, Henry and the Woodsman were the same being, with Henry only transforming into him as needed. However, over time, their thoughts and feelings began to separate more and more,[2] until finally, upon Henry's death, the Woodsman split off from him and became its own entity entirely, complete with a brand new soul budded off from Henry's at the moment of his death.[3][4]
The Woodsman continues to roam the woods around Gravity Falls for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. His origins remain unknown to the vast majority of the public, but he eventually finds a place in folklore and myth as a being that is kind to children and punishes those who would do them harm by cutting off their hands.[5]
