A kitsune is a fox spirit that can have anywhere from one to nine tails, with the number of tails directly correlated with the age and power level of the kitsune in question.[1] A kitsune with nine tails may also be called a Kyuubi.[2] While there is some suggestion that cutting off a kitsune's tail can reduce its magical power, this may be a myth.

Some kitsune may have the ability to shapeshift into human form, as evidenced by the fact that Pacifica plays one on the television series Vixen.[2] However, this may be an ability that is only available to Kyuubi, as Felicity Lewis is described as having bright orange fur and appearing as something in between a human and a fox.[3]

Although kitsune are very long-lived, they are not immortal.[4]
