Personality

Sarah is an introverted woman with a passion for gardening and researching her own family history.[1] She is very skilled at magic, and knows next to nothing about cars.[3][4]

History

Sarah was born in the early 2200s[5] and grew up in Nampa, Idaho. When she was sixteen, shortly after her breakup with her first boyfriend, she encountered the spirit of Nampa in a park, and came away from the experience with a new perspective on life.[2]

She met David Keeler while attending university in Vancouver, where she majored in history with a minor in demonology. After graduation, she received a job offer from her fifth cousin Isa Pines to work as a research librarian at the Stanley Pines Memorial Library. When David received an offer from the Gravity Falls museum to work as a curator of magical artifacts, they decided to save on costs by moving down to Gravity Falls together and being roommates. They eventually purchased an (extremely cursed) plot of land together and ended up razing the existing house to the ground and building their own. They put both their names on the lease.[1]

Shortly after moving to Gravity Falls, on a picking expedition, both Sarah and David ran into the minor demon Necalitz. David managed to beat him back into the Mindscape with a cursed golden idol of Bill Cipher. This started a blood feud between the two of them and the demon, and so every year or so, whenever Necalitz managed to drag himself back into the physical world, David and Sarah would track him down and beat him into the Mindscape again. This hobby of theirs would eventually get them officially classified as demons of unknown power levels.[6]

Later, they were kidnapped by a cult and subsequently rescued by Alcor the Dreambender. After his initial summoning, Sarah continued to summon Alcor every now and again, mostly so she could make deals for knowledge and ask questions about the Pines family history.[1]

Roughly six years after they initially moved to Gravity Falls together, Sarah and David's house was overtaken by Yggdrasil. This eventually led to the discovery of how to grow it in a laboratory, which made it significantly less valuable.[5] In 2237, they discovered that some of the leftover Yggdrasil from the overtaken-house incident had sprouted an inter-dimensional portal that led to other dimensions and time periods.[7]

Twelve years after they move to Gravity Falls, David's niece and Sarah's nephew come up to spend the summer with them. It is implied that they may be the reincarnations of people Dipper knew during the Transcendence era.[1]

Relationships

David Keeler

David is Sarah's best friend. They are common-law married and share a mortgage together. However, their relationship is strictly platonic.

The Car

The Car is a gray SUV that both Sarah and David have kept alive and kicking through the years entirely due to the liberal application of wards, hexes, and charms. When the Car misbehaves, either Sarah or David threaten it with a tire iron, axe, or belt sander. At one point, they performed a necromantic ritual on the Car, which does a good deal in allowing it to achieve sentience. After Sarah and David's deaths, the Car remains terrified of all their future reincarnations.[3]

Dipper Pines

Sarah knows Alcor only as the patron and guardian of her family. She occasionally summons him to barter for knowledge, and she is aware of a mysterious Uncle Dipper in her family tree, but she is under the impression that Dipper is a powerful magician who made a deal with Alcor in exchange for his family's protection.[1]

Trivia

  • Sarah and David own at least seven cats: Mooch (a black cat that teleported into their car and refused to leave), Blink (a black and white patch cat, and Mooch's offspring), Terror (a fluffy brown tabby with exceptionally powerful teleportation abilities that he almost never uses), Smoke (a gray Egyptian Mau), Char (a dark brown Burmese), Skitz (a brown and white tabby with a shredded ear), and Mango (an orange Abyssian).[4]
  • He and Sarah often go on "picking expeditions" around the globe, in which they search for historical and magical objects. Through these expeditions, they have come into possession of Hank Pines's enchanted cane, a few heirloom Pines family fezzes, and (albeit briefly) a cursed golden idol of Bill Cipher.[1]
  • The teenagers of Gravity Falls have a tradition to egg Sarah and David's house every year on Halloween.[8]
