Ian suffered heavily from depression as a teen, and even as an adult hasn't completely gotten over his issues. As one of Bill's first reincarnations his soul has problems dealing with the lack of omniscience, so he feels insignificant because he is unable so the see connections of everything in the universe. He has bad nightmares of him being intangible and invisible at the shack. He dreams of to kids playing and living in the house without noticing him at all , no matter what he does. He says it makes him feel non-existent. Dipper eats these nightmares and finds Bill's summoning cicle in Ian's subconcious memories. | |||

Ian was then held inside white zell for a while untill he was forced into a giant summoning and binding circle, meant to bring Bill out. Dipper and Mira came to his rescue tough, which put the government under pressure and made it use it's trumph card: Bill Cipher's real name.
