A Blighted One is a creature that hunts elves. Born to elven parents, a Blighted One is, genetically speaking, an elf. However, the crucial difference is that Blighted Ones are born without souls. This lack of soul manifests itself as a growing hunger for magic.
Blighted Ones sate this hunger by killing and eating magical beings and creatures, although they can make do with other, less violent food sources, such as MagiTech or pure magical energy. Although they are primarily known as a predator to elves, they can eat other magical creatures as well.
Due to their lack of souls, Blighted Ones are unaffected by spells and cannot do magic themselves. Little is known about them outside elf communities, to the point where even Dipper is unaware of their existence until he encounters one for himself.[1]
Appearance
Physically, Blighted Ones do not resemble elves at all. They are much taller than a human and very thin, with a fine layer of thin, shaggy hair covering their entire bodies. Their eyes are high in their forehead, and they tend to walk on their knuckles. They are unable to speak while in their natural form.[1]
Abilities
When faced with a supernatural being or a person with the Sight, a Blighted One is able to twist the other's senses, appearing as the one person that individual most wants to see. This ability is entirely involuntary, and a Blighted One is not able to control which loved one it presents itself as. Likewise, it is not to be confused with shapeshifting, as the Blighted One's body remains physically unchanged.
It is only through this manipulation of the Sight that a Blighted One is able to communicate with others.[1]
