Mizar the Magnificent is a cartoon created by Ian Beale. It features his girlfriend Mira modified into the role of Mizar, Alcor as her partner-in-crime, and Ian himself as the characters Sam and Cipher. Bill Cipher is represented as the main antagonist, Bael.[1]

Synopsis

Stella Conifer gets sent to spend a summer with her great-aunt Carla in Gravity Falls. On her first day there, she gets kidnapped by gnomes, only to be saved by Alcor, who makes her a deal: he'll give her the powers to save herself from any tight spots she might get into in the future, if she'll help him get to the bottom of something strange that’s going on in town.[1]

Characters

Stella Conifer

Stella is the main character of the show. She is based off of Mira Ramachandran. She has dark skin, wears square glasses, and tends to wear large, colorful dresses. She has a magical girl alter-ego, which Alcor gave the name "Mizar". She calls herself "Mizar the Magificent", but it doesn't catch on.[1]

Alcor

Alcor is a demon who makes Stella into a magical girl and asks her for help. He is based off of Alcor the Dreambender. The real Alcor notes that the character does look quite like him, although possibly with a larger head.[1]

Sam Cyrus

Sam is Stella's on-again-off-again boyfriend. He is based off of Ian Beale, and looks like him, only about ten years younger. He is a little shorter than average and is noodly-limbed. He has an alter-ego named Cipher, who is purported to be the main villain of the show until the second season, when Bael is introduced.[1]

Bael

Bael is the main villain of the show. He is based off of Bill Cipher. Unlike the demon, he is human, tall, and almost abnormally thin. He wears a triangular eyepatch and a yellow tailcoat. He is described by Ian as a "confident, sadistic, Machiavellian puppet master."[1]

Trivia

  • Alcor is credited as a creative consultant under the name "Tyrone Pines". Ian thinks this is because he doesn't want people to think Ian didn't come up with the show himself, but it is really because Alcor knows from experience with Twin Souls how wild fanbases can be.[1]
