Demonology is the study of demons. One who studies demonology is a demonologist.
Field of study
Demonology covers all topics of research into demons as a species, summoning practices, theological connections, and their history. Because of the wide range of research topics, it may overlap with other magic-based professions, such as the study of the Mindscape.
Summoning practices
Demonologists devote a great amount of time to finding the safest and most effective ways to summon demons. Many summoning circles and binding circles utilize aspects of other schools of magic, such as runes and wards,[1] and being somewhat proficient at related schools of magic is helpful if not required to be a successful demonologist.
Demonologists working in the field of summoning will research the demon they want to summon, the runes and wards already in use in their circle, and the runes that could be added, before having the results reviewed and finally holding a summoning to record the results.
Public preconceptions
Demonologists are often not well received with the general populace due to the stigma and fear surrounding their subject of study. At best, they are seen as weird and abnormal, and at worst, they are seen as wannabe cultists who endanger those around them by summoning demons.[1]
Jobs
Job opportunities made available by a demonology degree range from video game art consultants[1] to supernatural exterminators[2] to professors or government jobs. Any company that so much as touches on anything demonic is very likely to have a demonologist on call. Police stations hire them as occult specialists,[3] and they may find work as private investigators specializing in demonic activity.
