Rory Truong is a former demonology student. She is taught and mentored by Dipper during his brief stint as a demonology professor at the University of Garching in the Theocracy of New Hesse.
History
Spending her early years with her mother, a historian of demonology, in the Californian Archipelago of Northern Mexico, Rory learned from an early age to fear Alcor due to the extensive ramifications of the California Incident. When she was twelve, she and a friend found the body of a drowned man off the coast of one of the California islands.
When she was sixteen, roughly five years before the events of "The Valley of the Shadow of Death", her parents split up, and her mother, fearing the consequences of Rory becoming too involved in her research, sent Rory with her father to live in New Hesse.[1]
Due to test credit from her high school in California, Rory was able to skip several introductory demonology courses.[2] In 3143, she and Kinsky investigate a series of murders thought to be of demonic origin, after which she is offered a job in Kurdistan to work with the famed demonologist Ruken Ibrahim.[1]
Relationships
Professor Tyrone Pines (Dipper Pines)
After receiving his PhD in Pre-Transcendental demonological history from Hong Kong University, Dipper goes on to become a lecturer at the University of Garching due to his interest in demonology department head Jo Schulz. During this time, he teaches and eventually befriends Rory when she enrolls in one of his electives, a 400-level course entitled Practical Summoning Protocols.[2]
Although during their first meeting, he makes her cry due to an off-the-cuff oral pop quiz in front of the entire class, and though she does describe him as being "generally an asshole" they eventually form a fast friendship and he becomes a mentor figure for her,[1] at least until she learns his true identity as Alcor the Dreambender.[3]
Marek Kinsky
Kinsky is a devout theologist and the head of PR for the Theocratic Student Association at the University of Garching. He and Rory briefly form a temporary alliance to investigate a series of murders, and while they never really become friends, they do maintain their acquaintance post-graduation.
Ruken Ibrahim
Ibrahim is an experienced demonologist from Kurdistan. She acts as a mentor figure for Rory during a demonic murder investigation and eventually offers her a job.
