Mark and Anna are the Pines twins' parents.
History
Mark and Anna are loving parents to the twins. After the Transcendence, they begin to doubt their ability to be proper parents to Dipper, given that they can't see or hear him. When the twins are in their mid-teens, Mark and Anna send them to live in Gravity Falls, with Dipper and Mabel's agreement, where they think they'll have a better life.
After Dipper becomes Alcor, Mark and Anna became afraid of what he could do, but that never took the place of the love they felt for him.
Relationships
Their relationship with Dipper and Mabel varies as the kids grow to adulthood. Sometimes they get along fine, other times there are periods where things are very tense and the twins and their parents do not talk as much as they once did. This happens more after the triplets are born.
While they still love Dipper and Mabel very much, neither of them handle Dipper’s change very well. They’re scared of their own son as well as for him. They don't understand what has happened, don't know how to adjust to it, can't figure out how they can possibly be the parents they want to be to someone they can't even see or hear or feel the vast majority of the time.
They are also extremely worried about Mabel and the stress that dealing with Dipper all the time can put on her, such as the bullying she faces at school in Piedmont.
They ask the kids if they want to live with their Grunkle Stan not because they want Dipper gone, but because they believe the twins will be happier there. They feel they’ve failed as parents.
Personality
They aren’t cold, heartless, abusive or neglectful by any means; they just keep trying to deal with Dipper’s predicament and they often hurt their children one way or another in the process. This is always unintentional; they never purposely do something they know will hurt Dipper or Mabel, and often regret the mistakes they know they have made. Despite the tension, they’re constantly trying to do what’s best for their kids and make them happy.
Mark and Anna love Dipper and Mabel.
But sometimes love isn’t enough.
