He wanted her to grow up normally, so she didn't find out that her Dad was Alcor the Dreambender until she was kidnapped by an Alcorian cult at twelve years old.

She sees Tobias Pines (aka Toby) as her big brother, and was often babysat by him when she was little. She was adopted by Dipper right after Toby moved out.
