Stanford Pines is a paranormal investigator who built the Mystery Shack, which later became the Stanley Pines Memorial Library. He went missing in an alternate dimension for thirty years, and returned sometime around the Transcendence. He is a great uncle to Dipper and Mabel Pines, and was initially suspicious of Dipper's demonic nature before he grew to accept it.
