He wanted her to grow up normally, so she didn't find out that her Dad was a Alcor the dream bender until she was kidnapped by an alcorian cult.
Relationships
She sees Tobias Pines (aka Toby) as her big brother, and was often babysat by him when she was little. She was adopted by Dipper right after he Toby moved out .
Maddie's demonic adoptive father. Though the two posses a very close relationship, she was kept in the dark about his true nature throughout much of her childhood.
Appearance
She is typically depicted as a young black girl, though some drawings depict her looking much like Mabel.
