She was abandoned by her parents, so Dipper took her in and raised her. He wanted her to grow up normally so she only found out that her Dad was a Alcor the dreambender after she was kidnapped by an alcorian cult.

She sees Tobias Pines aka Toby as her big brother, and was often babysat by him when she was little. She was adopted by Dipper almost directly prior to him moving out.

She is typically depicted as a young black girl, though some drawings depict her looking much like Mabel.
