Rick Harland
Rick Harland is a reincarnation of Henry Pines.
Appearance
Rick is a few inches taller than average, but he looks somehow taller. He has light skin and tans relatively easily, and turns bright red when embarrassed. He has dark eyes and short brown hair, and tends to wear light grey, casual clothes like shorts and t-shirts.[1]
Although he is not much taller than average, he sometimes feels like he towers over people his own height, a feeling which causes him to slouch somewhat.[2]
Like most reincarnations of Henry, Rick has antlers that are only visible to those with the Sight. These look somewhat like the antlers you'd find on a white-tailed deer. When they aren't sprouting small white orange blossoms (and tiny blood-red oranges in the fall), they grow neon pink and blue orchids.[1] He only began growing orchids after meeting Minnow, as these are his favorite flower.[2]
Personality
Rick is awkward and a little timid at times, but he is a loyal friend and isn't afraid to defend the people he cares about from harm. He can also have a bit of a temper, especially after spending time with the Woodsman's Daughters.
History
Rick was born around four and a half centuries after the Transcendence.
Having been aware of his antlers since he was a small child, Rick eventually made a trip to South Dakota to speak with a commune of antlered dryads. There, he learned about his connection with them, as well as their connection with the Woodsman.
When he returned home, he met Minnow, a new student at his high school and instantly became infatuated with him. After defending him against a group of bullies, they would eventually start dating.[2]
Relationships
Minnow
Minnow is a Mizar that transfers to Rick's school. As soon as Rick saw him, it was like love at first sight.
Darren Bader
Darren is Rick's friend from school. He and Rick support each other through tough times.
Woodsman's Daughters
The Woodsman's Daughters are a group of dryads spawned from the Woodsman. They feel an immediate and instinctive kinship with Rick and instantly welcome him into their circle. Even after Rick returns home, he continues to talk on the phone with them and visit occasionally.
